I’m very unsavvy when it comes to technology. It’s not that I’m not keen on it, I’m just bad at understanding it. But as a content creator, I have to rely heavily on it too. I’m always on a lookout for products which make my life easier rather than complicate it. Honestly, I don’t even have the bandwidth to sit and understand the nuances of how something as basic as a camera works, I need it to work in a way that I can take good pictures and play with them to deliver results that my profession requires. I recently got hold of the Canon EOS M50 mirrorless camera. To begin with I resisted using it, but it didn’t take too long for me to give in. Even though I only shoot on auto mode, I still thought of listing down some of the features I found useful –
1) Compact – It fits in to my bag easily and isn’t very heavy either making it very handy for making vlogs.
2) High quality time-lapse videos – I was used to making time-lapse on my phone but obviously the quality suffers. Not too many SLRs in the market come with time-lapse feature that too in a 4k resolution. It’s as simple as placing the camera, pressing one button and letting it capture some of the best moments like my son build a lego or us playing with our cat. Now, I have the confidence of capturing time lapses as I travel. I will start recording videos too, only if someone could teach me how to edit them as well.
3) Transferring pictures via Wi-Fi – Honestly, who has the patience to sit and transfer the pictures using a cord? The camera allows you to instantly share your pictures on your smart phone using Wi-Fi.
4) Touch screen – I find comfort when I’m able to use a gadget using touch screen. And focusing on the subject is easier. Actually, it’s so easy that Kabir figured it out before I did and taught me how to focus.
If you’re looking for a mirrorless camera that offers great image quality, is easy to use and has a decent autofocus system, the EOS M50 is an excellent choice.
I’m attaching the time lapses I recently shot with the camera.
